A city made entirely out of books! Gasp!

Well, of course there isn't really one in real life.

But it's certainly a place I would like to live in.

This Is Where We Live from 4th Estate on Vimeo.

While I was snacking on a can of spicy tuna, I saw this video on my friend Danna's blog. Needless to say, I was agog with amazement and utter book lust; my mouth hung open as I watched the video, and if I hadn't had enough presence of mind, chunks of tuna would have fallen from my mouth and onto my Mac's keyboard.

According to the producers of this film, the whole thing was made up of 4th Estate books (both in original hardback formats, and their later paperbacks), and bits of those books. It was shot in full Hi Definition, using stop-motion animation, all done in camera. Over 1,000 books were, sadly, harmed in the production of this film.

I grieve over the death of those 1,000 books--but it must have been a glorious death!

Anyway, I've been watching this video again and again, and my eyeballs hurt from swivelling this way and that, trying to take it all in. So many beautiful books to look at! And I actually cheered when I saw Michael Chabon's The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay.

Lovely, lovely video. Can't get enough of it.
